Baby rattles come in all shapes and sizes from plush to wooden or plastic hand held toys. Rattles are a classic toy that the baby can shake to make noise. The idea of the classic toy instills a sense of security- the mothers of today's mom's likely had rattles as babies. With today's mass production of cheap toys many flawed products have slipped through the cracks. Companies as large as Target and Toy-R-Us had to recall their independently manufactured rattles. A multitude of other manufacturers have recalled their rattles:
There are various reasons for recalls. Rattles can break, discharging pieces that can become lodged in children's throats. Handles and bases are small enough to put entire object in mouth. Bells and ornaments attached exteriorly can become detached. No matter the reason, defective baby rattles should not be released to the public.
