Pacifiers

Pacifiers were created for babies to suck on for soothing. Pacifiers are equipped with a panel behind the nipple/teat (part to be sucked on) and handle, so children do not swallow or choke. Thousands of these simplistic devices have been recalled for safety standards.

Potential Hazards

  • The nipple/teat can separate from the back panel, creating a choking hazard.
  • Some pacifiers are attached to strings to keep them attached to the baby that pose a threat of strangulation.
  • Ornaments or decorations on pacifiers may become loose and harm the child or they may cause them to choke.
  • Material used to create the teat can come apart in child's mouth, causing another choking hazard.
