Bicycle Child Carriers

Parents are increasingly using bicycle carriers and trailers in outdoor recreational activities. There are some risks that are associated with these products, as serious injury may occur due to a number of factors. These factors can include faulty manufacturing, improper installation, and defective parts. Hazards on this type of product can seriously injure a child by way of strangulation, head injury, or scratches & abrasions.

  • Pacific Cycle recalled 7,000 InStep "Pathfinder," Schwinn "Run About," and Mongoose "Alley Cat" Trailer Bicycles after it was determined that the coupler connecting the trailer bike to the adult’s bicycle has welds that can potentially fail, thus creating a fall hazard.
  • REI recalled 5,200 Novara Afterburner Trailer Bicycles after it was determined that the children's trailer bicycle can detach.
  • PTI Sports recalled about 14,000 Schwinn Deluxe Bicycle Child Carriers after it was determined that if the seat is not completely on the rack, the plastic guide tabs on the carrier can break. If this happens, it could cause the seat to fall off.
